Course Description:

THMU 353 MUSICAL THEATRE HISTORY This course surveys the history of theatre, from classical Greek to modern, with an emphasis on the development of musical theatre. The history of musical theatre is traced from its roots in opera, operetta, and vaudeville to the revues and musical comedies of the 1920s and 1930s to the emergence of the modern musical and up through present day. Students are introduced to shows and songs from each period through readings, and various audio and visual recordings. Three hours, Spring, Odd Years
